The Jack Hurley Memorial

It's been a little over a year since Newfoundland lost one of our Tennis legends, and boy is he missed. Jack Hurley played an integral part of the growth and development of Tennis in our province for decades. We are looking forward to celebrating Jack at the inaugural Jack Hurley Memorial Cup this April 21st-23rd.

A social will take place at Riverdale on the evening of Saturday April 21st. Admission is included in registration. For anyone wishing to attend that won't be registering to play Tennis, a limited number of tickets will be available for purchase at Green Belt for $30 per person.

And to our new Ladies Club Champion (our highest-placed female singles player) – Eva Lynn Rice!!
Both Declan and Eva Lynn have earned the coveted parking spots in the Green Belt parking lot. Which their chauffeurs will enjoy 😊.

Thanks to everyone for participating! The players poured their heart and soul into their matches and the Saturday evening social goers poured their heart and soul into the Riverdale dance floor! Guests were treated to a Bollywood and Indian Classical Dance presentation by Sanchita Chakraborty and friends, some soulful C&W Music by Gloria Thistle, and dance tunes by our favorite tennis band Cold Plate. We were all very grateful for the opportunity to get together, especially Derek Tilley, who won the draw for a Growlers box for 20, with swag. It was the best party we’ve been too in a LONG time, seriously. Don’t miss the next one!.

A huge thank you to our volunteers and also our sponsors: Deacon Sports and Entertainment, Bannerman Brewing Co., Piatto Pizzeria and Enoteca, and Construction Signs Limited.

The Ploughman Cup

The Ploughman Cup takes place once a year on a single evening.  Registrants are assigned to equally talented teams of four, and after several hours of play, the group congregates in the clubhouse for food, beverages, some good-natured ribbing and the awarding of prizes.

The Ploughman Cup is a tournament honouring the memory of local tennis player and builder, Burf Ploughman, who made a huge contribution to both our club and the sport of tennis in the province.

Stay tuned for more information as details are finalized.
